In China, anything you want to do can be done through the internet which might sound like the worst nightmare for brick-and-mortar retail in the country but that is far from what is happening as the companies find a way to work with the virtual world to further enhance the shopping experience for their consumers.
In Guangzhou, China, a car manufacturer has set up an unmanned car vending machine that will allow buyers to browse through the models that they have to offer from their smartphone app and then choosing the car for a test drive for up to three days. Once they have made their selection, they can head to the vending machine and pick up the vehicle on-the-spot and return it three days later without having to deal with pushy salespersons.
Another online retailer JD.com also now offers robotic carts in their supermarkets that will follow you around the store while you check out their products. This way, your hands will be free to do other stuff like taking care of your child or picking up products from the shelves.
These are only some of the examples of how China is adapting to the “new retail” era that would benefit both the business as well as the consumers.
